The Photographers
 I
began my love affair with photography early in life. While a Cub Scout in
the 1950s my parents gave me a Brownie Hawkeye camera and I thought it was
the greatest gift, even though I couldn’t afford film and processing. Not
to mention the family lived too far out of town to make it practical to get
film developed.
As a teenager
I acquired a Polaroid Swinger, a very small instant camera. This was a
major technological leap over the Brownie and ever the geek, I was in love
once again.
As the years
went by, I pursued a career in electronics and did one tour in the US Army
as a satellite receiver technician. Joy and I met in high school and were
married much too young. But the Lord blesses and the marriage has been a
great one since 1970.
Joy bought me
my first 35 mm camera while we were newlyweds which sparked a whole new era
in our lives. I began to really take photography seriously. As the hobby
grew I needed some way to help pay for my increasingly expensive toys. Thus,
the wedding photography business was born. Using a couple of medium
format, twin-lens cameras we began our first (part-time) career in photography.
We were on our way to a successful business when we decided to make a
major life change.
Along the way
we felt it was God’s call in our lives to seek a full-time career in
Christian work. With much prayer and consultation, we sold our house,
quit our jobs and moved to Ft. Worth, Texas to attend seminary. I didn’t
give up photography, but felt that the wedding business was too risky for a
minister. Just one unhappy customer could not only damage the photo
business, but do harm to his ministry. Therefore, photography became
just a hobby once again.
As the years
passed we served in a couple of churches, then felt it was time to pursue
foreign missions. The kids were grown so the timing was
right to move to Germany where we served with the International Mission Board for
about ten years. After a few years as a church planter, the missions
organization offered me the position of media consultant. Among other
things the job meant I could now use photography in a ministry capacity.
After a few
years in that role, family issues became pressing. Joy’s mother, our only
living parent, needed someone to care for her back in the States. We felt
this it was in God’s plan for us to return to the States and begin a new
adventure in our lives. That’s were BlueMoon Studios comes in. With my
life-long passion for photography and real love of people, we felt it was
finally time to make photography a full-time occupation.

Our Philosophy
Few
days in your life are as special as your wedding day and we at BlueMoon
Studios want to help make it as special as possible.
Weddings are supposed to be happy, fun days
and we like to have fun. While we are serious about capturing the moments
and essence of your wedding, you will find that we have a sense of humor and
love people.
Our style is a blend of photojournalism and
traditional photography. That means we will stay out of the way as much as
possible and record the moments of the day while occasionally taking the
lead to gather and photograph groups of people and special moments.
We understand the awesome responsibility you
have given us to record your wedding day so that you, your children and
generations to come can not just see a few images, but feel the emotion you
feel on this day. It overwhelms us to know that images we record on your
wedding day will be a part of your family's heritage for centuries.
Thank you for placing so much trust in us, we
won't let you down.

FAQ
Thank you for considering
Bluemoon Studios. We know how special this day is for you and want to
do all within our power to make it the most wonderful day of your life.
We feel it is an awesome responsibility to think that the photos we make on
your wedding day will continue to be a part of you family's heritage for
generations to come. In future years and generations the most important
remembrance of your wedding will be the photographs. Therefore, the
photographs we make are as important to us as they are to you.
Realizing this we have attempted
to anticipate and answer some very important questions.
How much experience
do you have?
Over the years we have photographed hundreds of weddings. For the past
several years Butch has lived and worked in Europe where he honed his skills
in photojournalism.
What kind of
equipment to you use?
We use state-of-the-art digital equipment. That is, very high-end digital
cameras. Digital photography allows us to edit your photos in our computer,
giving you the best images possible. We are able to make minor and even
major corrections to photos when necessary.
I know you use
state-of-the-art digital equipment, but will I have real photographs?
Although your photos are recorded digitally, the prints are made at
traditional photo labs. The prints you receive will be real photographs and
not computer print-outs.
What will you wear
to the wedding?
We will wear what is appropriate for your day. Normally this will mean
darks suits for the men and professional attire for the women.
Are you one of those
obnoxious photographers who is distracting during the wedding?
In a word, NO. We realize this is a wedding and not a press conference. We
will do our very best to be as invisible as possible while recording every
moment of your day. Because of our state-of-the-art equipment we are able
to shoot the photos of your ceremony without flash while capturing high
quality images.
Do you allow other
people to take pictures while you are working?
Absolutely! Some photographers either feel that your relatives won't buy
reprints if allowed to take their own pictures or that they are in the way.
We at BlueMoon Studios are more interested in your wedding being a great
experience for you and your guests than we are in selling reprints. Plus,
we really enjoy people and love the camaraderie we feel with our fellow
photographers. We never forget that this is supposed to be fun.
Can we have color
and black and white photographs?
Yes. Because all our photos are digital, they are all initially recorded as
color images. We can choose after the wedding which images we want to be
black and white, color or even various shades of sepia.
How many hours will
you be at the wedding?
This is your day and we want to capture as much of it as possible. If you
desire we can begin with you getting ready in the morning and end when you
leave your reception.
